Eine fiktive Sammlung – Aargauer KünstlerInnen

9 September–30 October 1994

The Canton of Aargau was the guest canton at OLMA in 1994. The purpose of this invitation is to present the economic and cultural potential of different regions to a broad audience in St.Gallen. The idea of presenting a collection that does not really exist is rooted in the selection of special works and groups of works for the rooms in St.Gallen. The historical starting points of this collection are one work each by Caspar Wolf and Karl Balmer. Emma Kunz and Ilse Weber form a bridge to the artists of the seventies (Max Matter, Hugo Euter, Heiner Kielholz, Josef Herzog, etc.). In this exhibition, we would like to present above all artists who have a strong connection to the Aargau region. It is a phenomenon of the eighties and nineties that young artists move to the nearby cities of Zurich, Basel and Lucerne, partly because of the lack of training places.
