With their project «Durchbruch» (engl. «Breakthrough») the two artists Nic Hessand Kerim Seiler realize for the first time a joint work. For this project the two artists react on the one hand to the fact that the Kunsthalle should have another exhibition space in the near future. But the title «Durchbruch» also means a metaphorical level, where it is about connecting two different artistic things and strategies. From the initial construction office, in which Nic Hess and Kerim Seiler still playfully and not without irony deal with set pieces and cliché images from the construction world, such as construction helmets, work tables, material samples or beer racks, an exhibition develops that shows an almost fairytale-like stage of different fantasy spaces: a meadow standing on a wooden construction is tilted and dominates the first room. In the second exhibition room, one enters a sauna landscape made of lath scaffolding. At the back of the sauna is a small pond in which goldfish swim and near which one can sit down on benches. Both rooms are separated by a wall into which oriental-looking ornaments have been sawn. The light emanating from the massive lamps hanging above the lawn shimmers yellow through the sawn-out shapes into the sauna. Wishes. Fantasies. Illusions. For a moment they become reality.
