The encounter of a boundary evokes also a possibility to decide whether to accept or ignore this boundary. Framings allow us to grasp the chaotic, the diffuse in manageable units. Framings are thus forms of world appropriation and at the same time lead us to the realization that everything that was just within reach suddenly seems infinitely far away again. In Roland Dostal's works, framings and grids, surfaces and structures have method, for they create guidance systems through Dostal's world of thought and reflect a process of getting hold of the world. In an elaborate solo exhibition at the Kunsthalle, Robert Dostal presents a complex linkage of larger-than-life spatial elements and sculptures with a multi-part video work that runs like a course through the entire exhibition.
