From 6 December 2003 to 1 February 2004 Kunsthalle St. Gallen and Kunstmuseum St. Gallen present "Heimspiel", an exhibition shown simultaneoulsy in both venues. "Heimspiel" usually means a game played at the hometown of a sports team.
For the first time this year, artists from Vorarlberg (Austria) will take part at "Heimspiel", which thus becomes an international project without borders, creating a dialogue between various art genres as well as different countries. This comprehensive show of the regional art scene is organised every three years and opens the work of local artists to the public. 55 artists will show their work at the exhibition.
The selection jury was composed of specialists from around the country: Sabine Schaschl-Cooper (curator at Kunsthaus Baselland, Muttenz) and Nika Spalinger (artist and lecturer at HGK Luzern), Simon Lamunière (curator at Centre d’image contemporaine Saint-Gervais, Geneva). The jury chose their selection out of 398 submissions (987 works). This year's new feature is the open archive. The 398 submissions to "Heimspiel" will be open to the public at the Projektraum exex of the local artists organisation "visarte".
The 'Heimspiel' is held under the leadership of Kanton St. Gallen in cooperation with other local authorities of East Switzerland, including Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden, Thurgau, Fürstentums Liechtenstein and the Austrian region of Vorarlberg.
The Kanton St. Gallen acquires art works from the exhibition with a value of CHF 30'000. These works then enter the Kunstmuseum Collection as a loan. The City of St. Gallen also purchases works from 'Heimpsiel' for its own collection.
For the third time the Ortsgemeinde Straubenzell donates CHF 20'000 as an Award of the Ortsgemeinde Straubenzell to an artist of the exhibtion. A special jury has selected the works under the chairmanship of Peter Schambeck.
This years winner ist Alex Hanimann.
