With this show, the English artist Angus Fairhurst realised his first solo exhibition in Switzerland. Angus Fairhurst belongs to the first generation of young British artists who have received international recognition since the now legendary exhibition «Freeze» (London 1988). Fairhurst's work is both cross-media and widely networked in terms of content. In his installations, music performances, sculptures, paintings and drawings, the motifs of the body, movement and repetition constantly play a decisive role. They reflect Fairhurst's interest in rhythms and speeds, in the dynamics of our time, in which 'sampling' has also become a strategy in the visual arts. In his solo exhibition «This Does Not Last More Than Ten Seconds», Angus Fairhurst will be showing six current video animations in all three rooms of the Kunsthalle St.Gallen, which are being presented in this form for the first time. At the center of his latest works are animations of movement in which male and female bodies combine to form an ever-repeating shape. In his works, he thematises the interface between femininity and masculinity as an ongoing search for the so-called other, although the other is only distinguished by slight formal changes
