The artist Gina Proenza (*1994 in Bogotà/CO), who lives in Lausanne and Geneva, is one of the most interesting voices of the current young Swiss art scene. In her work she deals with complex narrative themes and questions of identity, as well as with sculptural and installative inventions of form. Not without a certain humor, the artist makes use of found objects, which she modifies and reinterprets. Through sculptural – sometimes monumental – interventions, she deals with a place, its history and its potential. The fact that her work is fed by narratives, anthropological research, legends, and literary influences is evident in the references, some of which are culture-specific, and also in the fact that she addresses the function and movement of visitors in the space itself as part of the scenic staging of it. In her first solo exhibition in the German-speaking world, Gina Proenza presents a large-scale installation with new works at the Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen.
The exhibition opens on Friday 13 January at 6 p.m.
