The sculptural objects and spatial installations of David Renggli (*1974, Switzerland) are characterised by the unexpected connection of a large number of various everyday materials and motives. The artist creates apparently familiar objects which, on closer inspection, often reveal themselves as surreal, absurd grotesques – due to the mixture of materials or the combination of objects. As in his site-specific installation «The Charm of Ignorance» at Museum im Bellpark Kriens in 2012, where he filled the exhibition spaces with more than 2,000 pictures in salon-hang arrangement, or his examination of painting by means of various material tests, the moment of surprise in Renggli’s work repeatedly shapes the aesthetic principle. His solo exhibition at Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen will concentrate on a central theme of his work: language. Ideas of illegibility, misinterpretation and absurdity will be exposed and represented in various media such as neon lettering.
